For a long time, Old Town Camarillo followed the same routine. Heritage Days rolled around every July, Ventura Boulevard filled with carnival rides, classic cars, and families, and then things slowed down until the next summer.
That isn't really the case anymore.
Once Heritage Days wraps up, Old Town doesn't go quiet. Between the monthly Friday Night Car Cruises, Wings Over Camarillo, local fundraisers at Camarillo Ranch, and several new restaurants opening over the past year, there's something happening almost every month. Instead of being a place people visit once a year, Old Town has become a neighborhood locals are using year-round.
Here's what's still ahead this year—and why it matters if you live here.
Heritage Days may be the biggest event of the year, but the Friday Night Car Cruise has quietly become one of Old Town's most consistent traditions. Held on the fourth Friday of every month from March through October at Studio Channel Islands Art Center, it's become an easy excuse to meet friends for dinner, stroll Ventura Boulevard, and enjoy the atmosphere without waiting for a major festival.
As of early August, there are still three cruises left this year:
Date | Day | Location |
|---|---|---|
August 28 | Friday | 2222 Ventura Blvd. |
September 25 | Friday | 2222 Ventura Blvd. |
October 23 | Friday | 2222 Ventura Blvd. |
If you've been before, you know restaurants start filling up around dinner time. Many of the newer spots along Ventura Boulevard are busiest on cruise nights, so reservations—or arriving a little earlier—can make all the difference.
One thing has become pretty clear over the last couple of years—Old Town isn't just a place people visit during Heritage Days anymore.
The neighborhood has settled into a rhythm. Heritage Days kicks off the summer, Friday Night Car Cruises keep Ventura Boulevard active through October, Wings Over Camarillo brings visitors from all over Southern California, and new restaurants continue to give locals another reason to come back.
If you're planning a weekend with family visiting, it's easy to build around those events. Spend the day at the air show, grab dinner in Old Town, catch a Friday Night Car Cruise, or finally try one of the newer restaurants you've been meaning to visit.
As someone who lives and works in this community, I love seeing Old Town continue to grow while still keeping the character that makes it feel like Camarillo.
