Ask someone what they love most about fall in Moorpark and you'll probably hear one of two answers. They'll either talk about spending the day at Underwood Family Farms or catching a show on High Street before grabbing a beer at Enegren.
The funny thing is, they're both right.
Once late August rolls around, Moorpark settles into a rhythm that's easy to miss if you're only looking at the event calendar. Days are spent at the farm picking pumpkins, wandering corn mazes, or visiting the animals. Evenings shift back into town with live music, community theater, local breweries, and dinner along High Street.
If you're new to the area, or just looking for something different this fall, it really comes down to two places.
High Street and Underwood Family Farms each offer something completely different, and that's what makes them work so well together.
High Street is where you'll find live entertainment, local restaurants, and one of Ventura County's favorite breweries. It's perfect for date nights, meeting friends after work, or enjoying an evening out.
Just ten minutes away, Underwood Family Farms becomes the heart of fall. From late September through Halloween, families fill the pumpkin patch, hop on tractor rides, explore the corn maze, and spend the day outdoors.
Instead of competing for your weekend, they naturally split it. Spend the morning at the farm, head back into town for dinner, then finish the evening with a show or a stop at the brewery.
Most people know High Street for its historic charm, but it's surprisingly active once summer winds down.
The High Street Arts Center keeps its calendar full with concerts, tribute bands, live theater, and community performances throughout August and into the fall. Because the theater is small, sold-out shows create a fun energy downtown. People grab dinner or drinks before and after performances, making it feel like the whole street comes alive.
That's where Enegren Brewing Company fits perfectly.
Just a short walk from the theater, Enegren has become much more than a brewery. Throughout the year they host group bike rides, running clubs, pickleball meetups, live music, game nights, and community events that regularly bring locals together.
Of course, Oktoberfest is still one of the biggest weekends of the year, but it's far from the only reason people gather there.
For many locals, fall doesn't really begin until Underwood Family Farms opens its Fall Harvest Festival.
The last weekend of September marks the transition from summer into pumpkin season. Families start arriving early for tractor rides, hay mazes, farm animals, and everything else that has made Underwood a Ventura County tradition for generations.
If you've been before, you already know weekends get busy.
One tip many locals swear by is visiting during the week if your schedule allows. Weekday admission is less expensive, parking is easier, and you can enjoy the same attractions without navigating weekend crowds.
Sometimes the best time to visit isn't Saturday morning. It's a Friday afternoon after school.
One of my favorite things about Moorpark is how easy it is to enjoy both sides of town in a single day.
Start your morning at Underwood Family Farms before the crowds really build. Pick up some fresh produce from the farm market on your way out, then head back toward High Street for lunch.
If you're looking for a slower afternoon, grab a pint at Enegren or browse the local shops before catching an evening performance at the High Street Arts Center.
It's a day that feels full without ever feeling rushed.
One of the things I love about living and working in Ventura County is seeing how every community has its own personality.
For Moorpark, fall isn't centered around one big event. It's a season made up of traditions that happen week after week, whether that's visiting Underwood with the kids, meeting friends at Enegren, or spending an evening on High Street.
Those places aren't competing with each other. They're what make Moorpark feel like home!
